MRKET Las Vegas 2012
After a short vacation, we are back with some pictures from MRKET in Las Vegas. Just like in New York, the exhibitors are presenting their Spring/Summer Collection 2013. However, the mood is definitely different in the desert.
Let’s start with a a few outfits and product teasers:
Slim pants with rolled cuffs in different colors are popular with the younger crowd at MRket.
For sportscoats, plaid fabrics in wool, silk & cotton blends remain popular.
French Deal Paris
At the show, I met the people behind the Paris-based label French Deal for the first time. While their items do not really suit my style, they try to do add some different details to their shirts, such as bibs and different fabrics.
For a casual outfit, I really like this jeans button down shirt with horn buttons and muted madras tie. Many men assume a tie always makes them look more formal, but this is a perfect example of how a necktie can be merely decorative and not necessarily an accessory that increases formality.
Eyebobs & Other Accessories
This gentleman definitely has an affinity for color, patterns and accessories. His glasses are definitely too bold for most men, but in my opinion it suits him rather well. Once I saw his wrist, I was surprised to see even more intricate details. Contrasting cuff linings are nothing special these days, but he chose a bold pattern, and in combination with his Rolex watch, a decorative ring and his eyebobs glasses, he certainly shows an understanding for color coordination. What do you think? Is this overkill or just perfect?
Suede shoes with rubber soles in different colors are still popular. I even saw quite a few cowboy hats – but we are in Nevada after all.
This outfit consists of a chalk stripe coat with wristbands, white jeans, and navy single breasted vest with gold buttons. Traditionally, a vest should not be worn with a belt (it causes the vest to bunch up unattractively) and this kind of stripe is typically reserved for proper business suits. Here, the waistcoat is so short that bunching won’t be an issue. At the same time, it shows off the belt buckle as well as the tip of the tie. Personally, I would certainly not wear it like that but it is a different approach of someone who clearly thought about it.
I really liked the look of these Fratelli Rosetti tassel loafers in suede leather with colorful accents. I think this is a great trend, and I am sure we will see more shoes like this from other manufacturers as well, so stay tuned for next summer.
Pleated shirts are traditionally reserved for evening wear. Here, it is paired with a two tone tie…what do you think?
Despite all these trends, one American classic is still going strong: the saddle shoe! Do you wear them?
Well, those are a few of our initial impressions from MRket in Vegas. We’ll be posting more over the next few days, so come back often! In the mean time, do you see any key style differences between the East & West show attendees?

Though none of the above – barring the summer loafers – is likely to find its way into my wardrobe, its reassuring to see these gentlemen making an effort. Predictably, well presented!!!
