We receive emails from an agencies or a companies every day asking if we would be interested in reviewing their product or service and transparency is very important to us, which is why we want you to know how we work.

The Requests

While we are happy about the interest in the Gentleman’s Gazette and our reviews, I sometimes read these requests with a benevolent smile. Many of these products are absolutely not what we are about – neither the style, nor the quality of our niche. For example, recently we were invited to review construction work gear, green, red & white striped tuxedo shirts, and bracelets for women.

These are easy requests to decline. On the flip side, there are brands that produce high quality goods, but they happen to be too rugged or design-y to be featured on the Gentleman’s Gazette.

Then there are the products that match our concept well, but it turns out that the quality is not to our liking. Seams are sewn crookedly, the leather or the fabric is below average, or the product fails quickly under average use.

Our Reviews

We do not write reviews about products that are obviously not related to the Gentleman’s Gazette. Our goal is to present useful, objective information about products that our readers may have a genuine interest in, so we’ll never make you read a review about a total outlier.

All goods and services that fit our niche are thoroughly tested and reviewed. As you probably noticed, we never praise a product or brand universally, but rather we look at the individual details such as quality, workmanship, service, order process, etc., and point out everything we experienced: the good and the bad. Everything we experience will be published.

Of course, you do not want to compare apples to oranges, and therefore we do provide all manufacturers in a similar product group with the same information. For example, in our shirt reviews all manufacturers received the same information with regard to posture and they all receive the same pictures.

Each individual is different and values certain aspects more than others.

Hence, we are convinced that it is important for you to know about the whole process, the pros and the cons of each individual product or service. With that information, you should be able to make an educated decision about whether it is worth buying or not.

Disclosure Policies

Interestingly, it is not unusual to read websites that praise themselves for disclosing that they received a product for free. However, in the US every online magazine or blogger is required by law to disclose whether they received any form of compensation – including gifts – for a review.

Now, abiding by the law is everyone’s responsibility, and every respectable publication should do that by default. No one should praise themselves for NOT breaking the law.

Nevertheless, we wanted to reaffirm that we fully disclose in every review whether we were provided with the product by the company or not. Also, we never accept any form of compensation for a review.

When linking to useful products or books, we realized that we often linked to amazon and hence we signed up to their affiliate program. Every time you click on links that lead you to amazon and add something to your cart and buy it, we make a small commission. We reinvest the proceeds to pay maintain the website, so we can provide more useful content to you for free. Apart from that, we are not interested in affiliate marketing.

  4. We will never give up our editorial objectivity.
