Their unique character is fully displayed when you allow the slim end peek out next to the wider front, showing the varying depth of color and creating a sophisticated, multi-dimensional look. It takes a number of unique steps to create these knitted pieces of art.

What makes Fort Belvedere soft knit ties so special?

To create a one-of-a-kind soft knit tie, Fort Belvedere sources a special heavy silk yarn that is spun, dyed and customized to harmonize specifically with a rare, 70-year-old knitting machine. The yarns are knitted in a seamless tube shape, using a painstakingly slow, process that can only be directed by skilled craftsmen. Each machine has a wheel which determines the pattern and texture of the tie. These wheels have to be filed by hand on a regular basis in order to ensure top quality knit ties. Once the knitting process is complete, the knitted silk is individually applied to a wooden mold, where they remain for a few days. The ties are then ironed and steamed to create the desired shape, and finished by sewing the top and bottom and the application of labels. Extensive quality control assures that each tie produced with high attention to detail.

Knit tie style tips

For ideal results, we recommend using a four in hand knot for a knit tie - most other knots create a bulky result. Traditionally, knit silk ties have a casual character, but today formal dress codes have changed and you have more room to express your individual style. Consider a stiffer Cri de Soie tie for a crisper look and soft knit ties for more relaxed combinations. 

Our two-tone orange & brown neckwear will pair well with all kinds of sportscoats and sweater vests, or casual wear. Some may even feel inclined to pair it with a business suit. This subtle tie is an unusual blend of two classic colors in a reinvented form. It is a bit lighter than Fort Belvedere's Cri de la Soie ties, requiring less silk, which is why we can offer them to you for less.

Proper knit tie storage

As with all neckwear, this tie should never be stored while knotted. Hanging storage will eventually cause the tie to stretch, so the qualities of this tie will be best preserved by storing them rolled, as seen in the picture, or flat.
