Pocket squares are probably the easiest and quickest way to upgrade your look. Once you have mastered the plain white linen pocket square, and the squares with colored edges, the next step is to add some color and texture to your outfits. Consider matching a tone of your tie, bow tie or sock with one of the 12 available pocket square's embroidered colors and create a sophisticated outfit.
Linen has been used for centuries and is derived from the fibres of the flax plant that is spun into yarn. For this pocket square we blended white linen with orange wool to create a slightly different texture and a fabric that wrinkles less. Because of its texture it adds a casual note to your outfits, but otherwise it works well with grey, charcoal but also green, brown and navy, especially during the spring or summer. At the same time it may add a unique touch to a tweed ensemble in the colder months of the year.
Most pocket squares are sized to get the largest number of pocket squares per yard of fabric. Unfortunately, this doesn't result in pocket squares with the right size, especially because every fabric has a different weight and weave. Most white linen squares are 43 cm x 43cm - 17" x 17" in size, and while they may work as handkerchiefs in the back pocket of your trousers, they are too big for the chest pocket and make pockets looked stuffed. Similarly, a linen or wool linen pocket square in 33 cm x 33 cm - 13" x 13" is too small, because it disappears into the pocket over the course of a day.
After extensive testing, we concluded that 38cm x 38 cm - 15" x" 15" is the perfect size for these textured linen pocket squares. Of course, all Fort Belvedere pocket squares are meticulously hand-rolled.
By nature, linen is very prone to wrinkles and even with some added wool, it is still wrinkly. Once you are done wearing it, remove it from your pocket and fold it in a square. If your pochette is too wrinkled, iron it hot with steam or a bit of water from the underside and it should look like new again, taking care not to flatten the edges.
