Wool Challis Tie in Navy with White Polka Dots

Neckties are one of the most valuable, versatile, and varied accessories in Classic Menswear. At Fort Belvedere, we proudly offer a wide range of products to suit every formality,
occasion, and personal style.

Made from the finest silks and wool sourced from Italy and England, these ties are a fantastic value that will help your entire wardrobe go further. We are also one of the few retailers to offer our 3-fold neckties in three different sizes, either tipped or untipped, so you can find the necktie that works perfectly with your height and preferred trouser rise.

WOOL CHALLIS

First popularized in the 19th century, the fine hand and muted colors of wool challis ties have made them a hit with stylish gentlemen ever since! The term challis is derived from the Anglo-Indian word "Shalee", which means soft. When this soft fabric was first introduced in Norwich, England in 1832, it was an immediate hit and quickly became a preferred fabric of the upper classes.

Today, wool challis is worn with both warm and cool weather ensembles and is a great alternative to madder silk or jacquard ties. Bright and bold colors add pop to casual outfits, while more sedate colors and patterns are perfectly acceptable as part of more formal business wear.

What makes this neck tie special?

Hand-Printed Wool Challis. Traditionally, wool challis ties were hand-block printed, a labor-intensive process that is not economically feasible today. Instead, modern wool challis ties
are screen printed. To capture the best of the old and the new methods, Fort Belvedere ties are screen printed by hand, lending the production process an Old-World charm.

3-Fold Construction. Many ties are made with an unlined 6- or 7-fold construction that is soft and flimsy, causing lank, unappealing knots and a wrinkled tie. Fort Belvedere neckties are 3-fold constructed with a simple wool interlining, improving the overall structure and drape of the tie while allowing for fantastic knots. The discerning eye may notice the lining visible through the open pores, creating the impression of a solid tie with a sophisticated twist that will impress genuine clothing aficionados.

Handmade. Fort Belvedere ties are entirely sewn by hand, which gives them improved flexibility and designs that are functional as well as beautiful. Our lined ties have an interlining of merino wool that is wonderfully soft while also giving the necktie improved  structure and drape, ensuring full, elegant knots

Size

Almost all retailers sell their ties as one-size-fits-all. A handful offer neckties that are either longer or shorter. At Fort Belvedere, we cater to the needs of every man, whether of modest, average, or above-average height, which is why we are proud to offer neckties in three distinct sizes.

The dimensions of our neckties are proportional to your height. The following chart will guide you as to which of our necktie lengths is right for you.

SHORT: For those who are 5’8” or 173 cm or shorter.
REGULAR: For those who are around 5’11 or 180 cm tall.
LONG: For those who are 6’3” or 190 cm or taller.

Please note that if you prefer to wear trousers with a higher rise and are in-between sizes, it may be better to size down so that the necktie does not fall below your waistband when tied.

How to store this tie

To prevent heavy creasing, never store your neckwear tied or knotted. Undo the knot and then roll the necktie up in a firm but not excessively tight coil. Allow it to sit in the coil for about a day
to relax wrinkles. To prevent stretching, knit ties should be stored rolled or flat. All other ties may be stored hanging up if desired.

Signature Green Gift Box.
Your necktie will arrive in one of our luxurious Fort Belvedere gift boxes. Featuring sturdy magnetic closures, this box comes in our iconic shade of forest green and displays the Fort Belvedere crest on the lid. While many gentlemen retain the box as the perfect way to store their ties, it is also suitable as a superlative presentation gift box.
