Although we live in a highly digitized world, old world items such as a tailored suit, a proper business card or a nice wallet have a tremendous impact on the first impression you make on other people.
Therefore, we decided we wanted to create an unusual wallet, that shows a degree of workmanship not found anywhere else, and so we created the All-Leather wallet with folded edges.
1. German Quality Leather.
A good wallet starts with great base materials. For this wallet, we use a cordovan colored deerskin leather. The hides come from Scandinavia and they are dyed in Germany, and then thinned down so the final wallet will be as slim as possible. Unlike boxcalf leather, deerskin has a visible leather structure. It is also finished softer than boxcalf and hence it bends more easily.
The inside is made out of turquoise deerskin leather lining and is likewise very durable, yet soft.
If you like a softly tailored suit, and a soft wallet in your pocket, this all deerskin leather is right for you.
Unlike most wallets, the surface of Fort Belvedere leathers is not pigment coated, which means you can actually see the fine pores. This makes for a more luxurious tactile feel and it develops a beautiful patina, whereas other leathers just look old.
2. Workmanship & Construction.
This wallet is entirely made in Germany by skilled artisans who have perfected the craft of fine, small leather goods making for more than a century. Most high-end wallets are made with folded edges that are then cut. As such, a contrasting color of the leather lining never reaches the edge and the edges feel rough. At Fort Belvedere, the edges of the shell and the lining are thinned with a special knife and then both folded and sewn together. This doesn't just look more sophisticated from all angles but it also helps to slow down the wear of the corners tremendously.
On top of that, the corners are rounded, so they slide easily in and out of pockets.
All linings of this Fort Belvedere wallet are made of quality leather, whereas other luxury brands use less expensive leather, fabric or polyester blends to create a divider or line the inside of their wallet.
3. 10 Credit Card Slots.
Unlike most wallets that fit 6 or maybe 8 credit cards, this wallet fits 10. Nevertheless, it is a simple billfold without a third card holder layer, thus ensuring it won't be too thick. The inside of the card slots is lined with super thin, yet sturdy cotton fabric thus guaranteeing a slim feel in your pocket.
4. Contrast Colors.
Most wallets these days come in either black or some shade of brown. At Fort Belvedere, we believe that a gentleman should have classicly inspired items with an elegant twist.
Therefore the shell of this wallet is classic burgundy or cordovan oxblood colored on the outside, but the turquoise contrast stitching and lining edges hint at what is to come when the wallet is unfolded: an exquisite edge-to-edge lining in red leather. In order to create a harmonious look, the inside is sewn in contrasting black thread. While errors are often not visible with tone-in-tone thread, a contrast stitch reveals the true quality of the workmanship.
Also make sure to take a look at our wallet in Whisky Brown Boxcalf with Blue Deerskin Lining, and our Black & Red Boxcalf wallet with turquoise deerskin lining, or get all three of them off and match your wallet with your shoes or other leather accessories as your mood strikes.

5. Built To Last.
Most wallets today are made of leather or coated leather with polyester lining and separators, and are meant to be used for a year and then dumped.
On the other hand, Fort Belvedere wallets are built to last.
We tested prototypes in different leather combinations for three years to make sure the wallets hold up and look good. Lamb leather was super soft but wore out the quickest and looked terrible after a few weeks. The black long grain leather from our business case was, held up well but didn't look the part because the embossed long grain resulted in wrinkles. Pigskin was a bit too soft, and the suede lining was likewise not durable enough. Saddle and bridle leather was too stiff in the pocket but boxcalf and deerskin help up extremely well, physically and optically.
When you buy this wallet, rest assured that you can happily use it for years to come.
