Although we live in a highly digitized world, old world items such as a tailored suit, a proper business card or a nice wallet have a tremendous impact on the first impression you make on other people.
Therefore, we created an unusual wallet, that shows a degree of workmanship not found anywhere else, and so we created the All-Leather wallet with folded edges.
1. German Quality Leather.
A good wallet starts with great base materials. We used a whisky brown boxcalf leather with a bit of a patina. It was dyed in Germany from German cows, and then thinned down so the final wallet won't be too thick. The cows are held in the alps where they are rarely bitten by mosquitos and bugs, which results into a beautiful, unblemished leather surface.
Unlike most wallets, the surface of Fort Belvedere leathers is not pigment coated, which means you can actually see the fine pores. This makes for a more luxurious tactile feel and it develops a beautiful patina, whereas other leathers just look old.
The blue deerskin lining, provides an interesting contrast in color and texture. The hides come from Scandinavia and they are dyed in Germany, and then thinned down so the final wallet will be as slim as possible. Unlike boxcalf leather, deerskin has a pronounced leather structure and it softer. At the same time, it is very durable.
2. Workmanship & Construction.
This wallet is entirely made in Germany by skilled artisans who have perfected the craft of fine, small leather goods making for more than a century. Most high-end wallets are made with folded edges that are then cut, which does not look elegant.
On the other hand, this wallet's edges are thinned out and then both folded and sewn together. This doesn't just look more sophisticated from all angles but it also helps to slow down the wear of the corners tremendously.
On top of that, the corners are rounded, so they slide easily in and out of pockets.
All linings of this Fort Belvedere wallet are made of leather, whereas other luxury brands use less expensive fabric or polyester blends to create a divider or line the inside of their wallet.
3. 10 Credit Card Slots.
Unlike most wallets that fit 6 or maybe 8 credit cards, this wallet fits 10. Nevertheless, it is a simple billfold without a third card holder layer, thus ensuring it it won't be too thick. The inside of the card slots is lined with super thin, yet sturdy cotton fabric thus guaranteeing a slim feel in your pocket.
4. Contrast Colors.
Most wallets these days come in either black or some shade of brown. At Fort Belvedere, we believe that a gentleman should have classicly inspired items with an elegant twist.
Therefore the shell of this wallet is patina brown on the outside, but the blue contrast stitching and lining edges hint at what is to come when the wallet is unfolded: an exquisite edge-to-edge lining in blue deerskin leather. In order to create a harmonious look, the inside is sewn in contrasting brown thread.
Also make sure to take a look at our wallet in Black & Red Boxcalf Leather wallet billfold, and our cordovan oxblood deerskin wallet with turquoise deerskin lining, or get all three of them of and match your wallet with your shoes or other leather accessories as your mood strikes.
You can also find the color coordinating business card cases here.
5. Built To Last.
Most wallets today are made of pleather or coated leather with polyester lining and separators and are meant to be used for a year and then thrown away.
On the other hand, Fort Belvedere wallets are built to last.
We tested prototypes in different leather combinations for three years. Lamb leather was super soft but wore out the quickest and looked terrible after a few weeks. The black long grain leather from our business case was, held up well but didn't look the part because the embossed long grain resulted in wrinkles. Pig skin was a bit too soft, and suede lining was likewise not durable enough. Saddle and bridle leather were too stiff in the pocket but boxcalf and deerskin help up extremely well, physically and optically.

Every leather product needs to be nourished every once in a while, but maintaining the leather of this wallet is easy. Just a little bit of clear polish on the outside will be enough for this wallet. On the inside it is basically maintenance free. We did it once in 3 years and it seems to be just fine.
This wallet comes in a beautiful Fort Belvedere Green Gift Box to you that does this wallet justice.
