Yellow Gold Shirt Studs Monkey Fist Sterling Silver

Practical jewelry that keeps your shirt sleeves or shirtfront neatly closed represents a critical intersection between form and function. At Fort Belvedere, our line of cufflinks and shirt studs possesses the vintage charm of timeless designs coupled with modern convenience and functionality. Reviving the tradition of beautifully crafted cufflinks with intricate detailing and even precious stones on both the obverse and reverse, you will find no boring T-bar cufflinks here. Likewise, our collection of shirt studs comes in a variety of metals to perfectly complement any evening ensemble, with thick protective coatings that will never wear off. Handcrafted by German master jewelers and designed to last, these cufflinks and shirt studs from Fort Belvedere will become treasured family heirlooms that you will be proud to pass on to your children and grandchildren.

Please note: Studs are sold individually, with tiered pricing available. 1 stud costs $125, 2 studs cost $112.50 each, 3 to 5 studs cost $100 each, and 6 or more cost $90 each.

Accessories are the perfect finishing touch to a classic tuxedo or tailcoat ensemble. Along with cufflinks, shirt studs are an essential component of a proper Black Tie or White Tie evening shirt and are more appropriate, and far more elegant in appearance, than the modern hidden fly-front or plain buttons.

Traditionally, cufflinks and shirt studs were sold to match, and so Fort Belvedere is proud to carry a complementary line of monkey’s fist cufflinks in the same metal as these shirt studs. With these perfectly paired accessories, your evening attire will be the envy of everyone present at your gala, soiree, or other formal occasions.

What makes these Yellow Gold Fort Belvedere Monkey Fist Shirt Studs so special?

1. Handmade Artisanal Construction. Just like a bespoke suit, the quality offered by a handmade piece of jewelry is beyond compare. These monkey’s fist shirt studs were handcrafted by a German master jeweler using heritage techniques. A genuine monkey’s fist knot was used as a model for our jeweler, which he then hand-carved into wax. A silicon copy was used to create a form from which the individual studs were then cast in precious metals in the exact same process used in the making of custom jewelry.

2. Intricate Detail. Our unrivaled production process makes it possible to emphasize the tiniest details in these beautiful monkey’s fist shirt studs. Each knot is perfectly centered on its stud, so together, the studs will appear uniform from any angle or orientation on your shirtfront, and the fine, deep ridges on the cords showcase their impeccable workmanship. We have even discreetly hidden our Fort Belvedere maker’s mark on the reverse of the stud, so that nothing spoils the elegance of the stud’s appearance.

3. Cast in Solid 925 Sterling Silver. The overwhelming majority of modern shirt studs are made hollow to save time and money. Because of our dedication to functionality and appearance, Fort Belvedere refused to compromise in this way and all of our shirt studs, both the faces and the mechanisms, are cast in solid 925 sterling silver. Not only does this give the studs a pleasing heft in your hand, but the solid construction also improves durability and helps the stud sit securely in your shirtfront.

Perfectly Proportioned Dimensions

These studs are sized according to the refined and understated conventions of the Golden Age of Menswear and were rigorously tested with evening shirts from various manufacturers to ensure an elegant position and a secure hold. You can see how they sit firmly in a standard evening shirt from the associated pictures, but for your reference, please find the exact dimensions below.

Length: 15 mm or 0.59" with the mechanism opened. 16mm or 0.63" with the mechanism closed.

Knot Diameter: Approximately 11mm or 0.43,” which is comparable to the size of a shell button.

4. Classic Yellow-Gold Vermeil. Traditionally, silver that is heavily plated with gold is referred to as vermeil, and with plating of 5 to 6 microns thick, we certainly think that these [meta] studs qualify! This thick plating ensures that the gold on these studs will never rub off, which is why Fort Belvedere insists on plating that is ten times thicker than that of our competition. This thick plating not only improves longevity, it also imparts a rich luster that will truly stand the test of time and allows you to enjoy the look and feel of solid gold studs, easily valued at over $1,000 each, for a fraction of the cost.

5. Secure Mechanical Closure. Most modern shirt studs, even those from so-called luxury brands, are made with a simple single-piece construction because it is easier to do and, therefore, cheaper. We learned from experience, however, that studs made in this way are prone to popping open at the most inopportune times, especially during vigorous movement like dancing. Not only does this leave your shirtfront flapping open, it usually means that the stud becomes lost somewhere on the floor. Therefore, we created a secure mechanical system that locks firmly into place, ensuring that once you have snapped the studs into position, they will remain closed.

6. Hypoallergenic & Nickel-Free. Most gold or platinum plating today contains nickel, an allergen that prevents many men from wearing plated jewelry. At Fort Belvedere, we have taken the extra step to ensure that none of our metal goods contain nickel, so even if you have had issues with other jewelry makers, you can confidently wear Fort Belvedere jewelry without concern or risk.

How to wear these Classic Yellow Gold Monkey’s fist shirt studs?

Shirt studs are designed to be worn with evening shirts, such as a pleated-front tuxedo shirt for Black Tie or a Marcella pique or boiled-front shirt for White Tie. For formal occasions, it is traditional to match metals, such as your wristwatch, watch chain, fob, or other metallic accessories. Traditionally, your shirt studs should exactly match your cufflinks, which is why Fort Belvedere carries both items as matching pairs.

Gold metals are traditionally worn with either Black or White Tie ensembles. Therefore, these studs are the perfect complement to any tuxedo, dinner jacket, or tailcoat, and their matching cufflinks could also be worn with day attire like a business suit at the office, tweed jacket, or navy blazer.

Fort Belvedere also carries evening shirt studs and cufflinks in Platinum and Rose Gold, completing, with this stud, the Trinity of Menswer Jewelry Lusters.

Be Sure to Buy As Many Shirt Studs As You Need

Evening shirts can feature anywhere from 2 to 5 buttonholes, so Fort Belvedere shirt studs are sold individually so that you never need to buy more than you require. To help you fill out your shirt stud collection, we are happy to offer tiered pricing so that the more you spend, the more you will save.

1 stud costs $125, 2 studs cost $112.50 each, 3 to 5 studs cost $100 each, and 6 or more cost $90 each. If you ever lose a stud, consider buying a complete set of studs in another metal as well to help expand your formal evening wardrobe while saving money.

How To Care For These Shirt Studs

With regular use, these shirt studs should not require any special cleaning and will naturally develop a beautiful, subtle patina that imparts personality and uniqueness. If desired, a quality precious metal cleaner can be used sparingly to bring out a brighter shine, but this is not necessary. These shirt studs are sturdy enough that you can wear them without concern and can look forward to passing them on to your children or even grandchildren.
