For those of our readers who have wanted to hear me sing some jazz, today is your lucky day! Today’s video ties into our 10-year anniversary celebration of the Gentleman’s Gazette.
As some of our longtime readers may know, especially if you’ve watched my FAQ video: outside of working at the Gentleman’s Gazette, I’m also a jazz vocalist. I work mainly within the realm of early 20th-century jazz, in what is often called the “Great American Songbook,” or “Standards” for short. Some of my personal singing idols include Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra, and I try to work with soundscapes similar to theirs as often as I can.
A Summary of Preston’s Concert
I’m still an emerging vocalist who’s just getting my feet wet in the professional scene. With that said, I did have an opportunity (in August of 2019) to do something which I thought was very fun. Working with a collaborator and friend of mine, Maestro Andrew Casey, he and I were able to put together a concert of these Great American Songbook tunes for a grateful audience. As we mentioned in our FAQ video, rights management for Standards on YouTube can be tricky. As such, if you’d like to see more than the one song we’ve featured here, you can visit my personal website.
Conclusion
Hopefully, my song stylings are to your liking! My thanks to Maestro Casey for collaborating with me on this concert, to the Hopkins Center for the Arts for hosting us, and to the Gentleman’s Gazette readers for being inquisitive and curious about wanting to see some of this footage.
A perfect accompaniment to classic style
Agreed. More than just a voice, Preston’s persona carries the other half of the performance.
And we have tickets to the Glenn Miller Tribute Band performing at The Elsinore Theater. What to wear what to wear… Delightful problem to have. Keep class alive!
I am delighted to find support for my suggestion of a GG signature tune. Sven ignores most of my suggestions and has even been known to delete them.
Hello Preston:
I have never responded to a YouTube video before. I enjoy Gentlemen’s Gazette. What a welcome surprise. I am a fan of jazz because of my late mother’s love of jazz. You have an excellent voice. Hope to hear more.
Best wishes
Mark M.
Thank you, Mark! :)
Wow – nice pipes. Very nice.
You really should listen to Mabel Mercer, Sinatra’s muse for phrasing. She was able to enchant with a limited voice. Sinatra had the phrasing and the voice.
I can’t sing, don’t ask me. Brave.
Oh Preston, this was wonderful! More please.
Thanks Joanna! :)
How do you do, that was amazing
Wonderful voice, Preston! Very authentic sound.
Thank you, John! :)
Singing the standards isn’t easy. . . but you did well!!! Keep at it!!!

Very well done! As a drummer, I played for a few years with a band called the Parlor Squares. This song was one that we played. I loved playing all those classics. Thank you for the memories! Keep it up, sir. I wish you much success!
Thank you for your comment, William. :)
Well done! I look forward to hearing more.
I’m very impressed. You remind me of Mel Tormé. Keep up the great work

Not Bad. You have a great start and will only get better with phrasing . And time. time working with the material. Looking forward to more. See if you can borrow some Nelson Riddle’s work with the songbook.
Bravo! I love the music from the great American songbook. You appear to enjoy yourself and THAT’S the most important thing. Please continue. Again, Bravo!
Bravo, Preston!
Thanks, Dale! :)
Excellent performance!
