Are These 22 Men the Best Dressed in the World Today?

Although clothes are, first and foremost, practical to keep us warm, today, they’re much more than that. Clothing can represent our personality, our values, and, of course, our personal style. Today, we’ll talk about the best-dressed men in the world who enjoy the great pleasures of clothing and look great doing it.

Typically, when it comes to best-dressed lists, they’re full of movie stars, musicians, and other well-known figures such as Prince Charles. While some of them, like Benedict Cumberbatch, has an interesting personal style, I believe there are lots of real men, who are not famous, who have a much better, much more interesting style than those famous superstars.

Before we get down to the list, rest assured that this is 100% not sponsored. There is no collaboration going on. These are truly men that we find inspiring, who have a classic style that is very unique and interesting. Our team at Gentleman’s Gazette spent the whole day going through social media feeds and it was a very productive day. This is not a ranking from first to last. These are just men in random order as we saw them.

22 Best Dressed Real Men: 1. Sean Crowley (@crowley_vintage)

Sean Crowley is a proprietor of Crowley Vintage in Brooklyn. Sean is a vintage buff who describes his style as “maximalist” and, if you’ve ever been to his store, you know why. It’s packed with stuff, but always in a stylish tasteful way.

I’ve been to his apartment years back. I had a picnic with him at the park. And it is truly maximalistic. There is not a square inch where you could put something, yet it’s a very unique style and it’s also reflected in his clothes.

He gained experience from Bobby from Boston and is a lover of the English country style. He also used to work for Ralph Lauren, so he really has a lot of vintage Ralph Lauren stuff, stuff from England, collegiate things, Ivy stuff. Overall, a cool, eclectic mix, not just at his store, but also personally in his wardrobe.

Of course, he wears lots of vintage items, but he also has custom suits from Alan Flusser and he likes the shirts from Drake’s. As you know, we love vintage too, and Sean is our go-to guy for vintage inspiration.

Being based out of New York, his stuff is not cheap, but it’s worth it.

2. Maslow So (@maslowso)

Maslow So has a very different style than Sean Crowley. Maslow previously worked for Prologue Hong Kong. He’s with Il Negozio. Basically, it’s a brand that focuses on Neapolitan style paired with Japanese craftsmanship.

We love his outfits because they often pair interesting textures. He’s not bold typically in colors or in patterns, even though, sometimes, you can see a windowpane for example. He likes earth tones of browns and ivories, but also light blues, navies, darker blues, and shades of gray.

Note his single-breasted jackets always have very cutaway open-front quarters, which is a very particular style that, even though I’m not personally a fan of, I respect as a stylistic hallmark.

Overall, I love how he brings together his outfits in a classy, yet understated way, because style isn’t always about bold choices.

3. Sem (@dapperclassic)

Sem posts fantastic outfits daily on his Instagram. Most of the time, you’ll see some form of combination. In the past, he typically focused on shirts, jackets, trousers, and accessories. But, recently, he also added more full outfit shots, which we appreciate.

There are two things I really like about him. First, is the way he pairs his jackets with his pants. There are lots of combinations going on and it’s quite inspiring if you have a somewhat larger wardrobe or even a smaller wardrobe, and you want to mix things in a different way. Second, I like that he pairs rather colorful accessories to make it all pop without being overly loud. Yes, he does wear suits sometimes, but really, there are a lot more outfit combinations.

4. Richard Olah (@richards_sartorial_journey)

If you like suits and the trad style, take a look at Richard Olah with the befitting handle of @richards_sartorial_journey. In my mind, it’s a blend of trad style, Ivy league, and personal take on classic men’s style.

Richard likes striped, double-breasted suits or interesting pastel-colored shirts or Winchester shirts, just like tennis sweaters and sweater vests. He also pulls off bow ties and vintage accessories.

What’s even more impressive is that most of his wardrobe is vintage or secondhand, which goes to show you that can have a fantastic style on a budget. If you’re new, you’re on a budget, and you think, “Well, I can’t afford that. I can’t look like that,” please check out our guide on things gentlemen on a budget can do to express their style in a way, despite not having a lot of cash.

5. Mr. Escobar (@escobarstyle1)

On the other end of the classic spectrum is Mr. Escobar. When I see his Instagram, I think much more of Kyle’s style. You see denim jackets and overshirts, and suits are something you rarely find there.

Mr. Escobar’s outfits are a fine example of pairing boots or double monk straps with flannel shirts and simply more casual items in a still classic environment. As much as we love the classic suited-and-booted style, it’s great to have some inspiration when it’s not time to wear a tie.

6. Jeff (@anglo_and_ivy)

Another stud we like is Jeff from @anglo_and_ivy. He wears tweeds and corduroys, seersuckers, bow ties, and all the nine yards. With his tennis and cricket sweaters, you can clearly see his appreciation of English style, as well as Ivy style.

What’s really nice about his wardrobe is that he incorporates scorpacciata a lot, which basically means indulging in the joy of dressing in a seasonal fashion.

So, if it’s spring, you’re bound to see Jeff in seasonally-appropriate colors that pop and are a little bit louder. And in the winter, he likes to layer up with sweater vests, tweed, and corduroy. Of course, all in much more muted colors and patterns.

Just like Richard Olah, Jeff incorporates lots of vintage items into his wardrobe.

7. Emopotstyle Mooh (@emopotstyle_image_consultant)

Emopotstyle Mooh is an image consultant based in Europe, who brings us a wide range of styles. Whether it’s a green Lord’s hat with a feather or an overcoat that has elements of a frock coat or, simply, a classic combination with a pair of navy pants, Mooh has great style.

That being said, not all outfits are something that I would wear, but he’s a style and image consultant. So, he sometimes goes a little further. He experiments, and that’s the beauty of style. You won’t always nail it. You don’t want to get an outfit that is awesome. But, by constantly trying and pushing the envelope, you are always refining your style and finding your sartorial voice.

8. Akinari Shoji (@akinarishoji)

Next up is Akinari Shoji, who works for Kamakura Shirts in Tokyo. I like his outfits because they’re not dusty, over-the-top, yet, they have a vintage-inspired air around them. He’s not into period customs at all and everything he wears is modern and can be worn in this day and age. But, everything has a nod to specific decades and I like that.

Another reason we like his Instagram channel is that he re-styles outfits around the same suit and shows a lot of creativity, which is something that can help you get more use out of the same garment.

Akinari in a double-breasted Prince of Wales check suit
Akinari in a double-breasted Prince of Wales check suit

A prime example is his double-breasted Prince of Wales check suit. I have one too and I can definitely learn something from him. Overall, I like that he showcases that you don’t need a huge closet to enjoy dressing well.

9. Raashid Hooks (@sugasheed)

Perhaps most well-known from the photoshoots from the British brand Thomas Farthing, which is also very vintage-inspired, Raashid Hookserhaps is a model. As such, not all the things he wears or that you can see on his Instagram are actually his style. However, that doesn’t take away from the fact that he wears things extremely well.

Raashid in a shearling leather jacket for a stylish cold weather look

Because he’s a model, some of the outfits featured are more fashion-forward. But, we, of course, look at the things that inspire us. We like Raashid’s Instagram because, whenever he wears something, he does so at ease. He wears the clothes, the clothes don’t wear him.

10. Taqu Uhi (@taqu_uhi)

We like Taqu Uhi because he really loves to incorporate color into his outfits, similar to maybe Sem.

Taqu is not afraid to wear bold jewel tones in his outfits but, because items are of a higher quality than most of these bolder tones, it actually works and looks good on him. It’s a great example of textures, sartorial details, and how you can use the color wheel to your advantage

Another reason we like him is that he’s a big fan of odd vests, which I think are very underrated in classic menswear today.

11. Armando (@armandomadrid)

Armando from Madrid is another fine example of the classic sport coat and odd trouser combination. He has a strong following on Instagram and, recently, he even started publishing unboxing videos of shoes on his YouTube channel.

Armando in a harmonious look featuring shades of brown, blue, and grey
Armando in a harmonious look featuring shades of brown, blue, and grey

What Armando does really well is using a pair of trousers that are well-fitting as the base canvas for his classic outfits. Utilizing plain designs in a broad range of earth tones, lighter tones, or darker shades of navy or gray allows him to be much more playful and colorful with the rest of his outfit. Frankly, this is really something you can try too and, before long, you may be interested in this spezzato technique.

12. Esosa Imoisili (@centralcalisosa)

If you’re more interested in a fresh take on the classic business suit, Esosa Imoisili is your guy. I know you’ve heard it many times and I’ll say it once more, it’s all about a fit, and Esosa nails that.

As a guy working in finance, his outfits definitely have a bend towards the more muted, business side, yet it’s not the classic old-school look that you may know from Wall Street. Yes, he wears lots of grays and blues but, sometimes, he wears a really bold color tie, for example, or a very narrow lapel suit.

None of his clothing looks either restricted or oversized and he also does a good job in pairing these classic colors with subtle, yet bolder than normal accessories.

13. Hiro (@hiro_uk_music)

Hiro has a passion for all things English, especially English heritage brands. And even though those brands are very traditional, he brings them together in a fresh and interesting way. You can see more casual jackets or Norfolk jackets, but also suits. And, often, he combines accessories quite well.

I also like that he’s not afraid to wear spectator shoes. They’re always in brown and white but, sometimes, in kind of a beige or suede in a slightly different shade of brown.

14. Taste of Texture (@taste_of_texture)

Next up is @taste_of_texture, who claims he’s 24 years old and from Poland. Some people may say he looks more like 14 than 24 and I can totally see why. He has a growing array of clothes that he combines in a really cool way.

@taste_of_texture's sprezzatura look applying complementary colors
@taste_of_texture’s sprezzatura look applying complementary colors

No matter if it’s a light gray suit, a double-breasted navy blazer, or a green sport coat, he pulls it all off extremely well. Also, he often wears his tie. It’s in a very elegant way where you can see both blades in the top, which creates more of a sprezzatura look.

15. Bernhard Roetzel (@bernhardroetzel)

Bernhard Roetzel is the German “Pope” of classic menswear. Bernhard has been writing and exploring and enjoying classic men’s clothing ever since I was a child. He’s the author of the famous book Gentleman, which has been translated into many languages and he has written many other books about the subject matter.

I’ve met him in person a few times and he’s a big supporter of the English classics. Yet, he’s also interested in Eastern European, Austrian, and other styles. Sometimes, he can certainly be eclectic and maybe a little over the top for some, but I always find it inspiring and interesting.

Eclectic but still classic, here Bernhard underlines his look with a bright green sweater
Eclectic but still classic, here Bernhard underlines his look with a bright green sweater

That being said, he’s also not afraid to wear a heavily-worn waxed jacket and rubber boots in a very country-style and he, in fact, lives in the countryside outside of Berlin in Germany. So, it’s very fitting.

In recent years, he has found the internet and one thing that stands out is that he has a lot of nice photography that is often very much outside, and not inside a studio. So, it’s always in context and very inspiring.

16. William (@voxsartoria)

Another character that we think is one of the best-dressed men in the world is @voxsartoria, a.k.a. William or Bill. On his Instagram channel or his website, you’ll never see his face. It’s always blocked out or covered, yet the clothes he wears are always pristine.

William dons a well-fitting double-breasted seersucker jacket

He likes martinis, quality fit, and fabrics, and he often shows creations of his bespoke tailor’s steed. Although he has a healthy selection of single-breasted or double-breasted ones, I’m always really positively surprised by the fit, especially on his double-breasted jackets.

His website is basically a visual journal full of great pictures of classic movies and James Bond, always in high resolution. And I don’t know where he finds them all, but it’s great stuff.

17. Linus (@iamshufaja)

Another well-dressed man in our book is Linus from @iamshufaja, who is the menswear blogger behind The Suitstainable Man.

As you guessed from the title, Linus is particularly interested in how sustainability is part of classic menswear. Therefore, it’s really nice to see how versatile some of the items are in his collection as he restyles them in many different ways.

As an advocate for quality tailoring, he has a very refined and elegant style, and it’s refreshing to see someone who’s so enthusiastic about sustainability in clothing.

18. Herbert Stricker (@grimoddelareyniere)

One of my personal all-time favorites for best-dressed men is Herbert Stricker. He is about seven-foot tall and has large feet and so, from an early age, he was more or less forced to explore bespoke for him.

Herbert distributes high-end colognes and perfumes for a living all over Europe and, because he always enjoyed the bespoke shoes from Roberto Ugolini, he came up with the idea of creating a fragrance line with the same name.

One of Herbert's Roberto Ugolini bespoke shoes

He travels quite frequently all over the world and he has experience with many different tailors and schools of tailoring. For example, he was the first man I knew that had a Sciamat jacket and that was in the early 2000s.

His vast experience with different bespoke tailors, shoemakers, and shirt makers, paired with an attention to detail, creates astonishing, unique outfits. Not many people had experience with English bespoke suits from Anderson & Sheppard, German suits from Dietl or Schmauder, and Italian ones from Caraceni, Colombo, but even more obscure tailors like Di Toni or, what he calls, “mystery” bespoke tailors.

Even though Herbert has all the classics, he’s not afraid to change his wardrobe once his weight fluctuates and so, in between all those high-end bespoke garments, you can sometimes also see a SuitSupply garment, which is pretty cool.

19. Henrik Hjerl (@henrikhjerl)

Another great dressed man is Henrik Hjerl, also known as “Butler” from Styleforum. He’s a Danish sartorialist known for his warm smile and his eccentric nature. He’s also a great magician. He values his personal style highly and many of his garments are made by Steven Hitchcock.

I like his overall style, even the fact that he had a wonderful portrait painted by a Danish artist that resembles that of maybe a 1920s gentleman’s portrait. He’s not afraid to wear Hermes H ties. But, after all, with the alliteration of H in your name, I guess that’s all right.

A pink Hermes H tie on Henrik

If you look at all of his pictures, you’ll notice that his shirt collars are always in perfect shape and the reason for that is because he loves detachable collar shirts. Yes, they’re hard to find these days. There are some legal outfitters like Stanley Ley who offered them off-the-rack. I think Henrik gets his custom-made, but there is nothing that looks like a detachable collar and he’s the perfect example of why.

What I like about him is he wears the same suit to Pitti Uomo. One of them is a green suit with a windowpane, I think, in purple or blue, orange, and yellow. And then, he also typically wears his Spanish cape, which is quite unique and, therefore, a style hallmark for him.

20. Giorgio Giangiulio (@giorgiogiangiulio)

Another really well-dressed person I always see at Pitti Uomo is Giorgio Giangiulio. When you scroll through his Instagram feed, you’ll notice he wears sunglasses more often than not.

I like his outfits because he pulls off lighter colors very well. He has this typical Italian style, but he’s not afraid to maybe wear a bordeaux corduroy suit, which I photographed him once in, or maybe a brown suit, which can look quite cool.

All of his photos are really high quality. Often, they’re really stylized with nice cars or in a beautiful setting. So, it can always be a little Ralph Lauren-esque.

21. Nick Foulkes (@n_foulkes)

If you’re more into eccentric style, I highly recommend you follow Nick Foulkes. He’s a prolific author and wordsmith extraordinaire. But, in my book, he has this wonderful, eccentric style with a bend for dandyism.

He wears mauve windowpane suits or gigantic large patterns. He wears multiple rings, lots of jewelry, all of his eyewear is typically bespoke, so nothing he has is really run-of-the-mill. It is bold. It is loud but very unique and always very tasteful.

If you think to yourself, “Ah! I can’t wear this. Oh! That’s too much,” take a look at his photos and I hope it will encourage you to be a little more daring with your outfit choices.

22. Andy Poupart (@styleafter50)

Most of the time, when it’s about fashion and style, people automatically think about young people and young men. Andy Poupart is a great example that it doesn’t have to be that way.

On his Instagram, with the handle @styleafter50, he shows, together with his wife Michèle, that even in your latter half of the year, you can have a very refined, elegant style and it’s not just all about looking young.

Andy--shown here with his wife, Michèle--in an orange-gold velvet dinner jacket
Andy–shown here with his wife, Michèle–in an orange-gold velvet dinner jacket

Andy loves to wear hats and bespoke garments. Whether that’s an orange-gold velvet dinner jacket or a green one or a red one or maybe a kind of oatmeal one, he has it all.

He’s also not afraid of unusual fabrics, such as reverse shadow-stripe suits or pale green ones. He really is never afraid of color and even wears a bright red overcoat.

Sadly, I’ve never met Michèle and Andy in person. But, just based on their pictures and their channel, I think they’d be wonderful to have a dinner party with and a few drinks.

BONUS: Dennise (@women_in_tailoring)

Last but not least, we have Dennise from @women_in_tailoring. Yes, you heard right. On our list of best-dressed men, we actually have a woman, and for good reason. Why? Well, Denise wears tailored clothing extremely well.

There’s Sonya Glyn from Parisian Gentleman, who is also very well-dressed and also always has this sartorial men’s style in a very female way and I really appreciate that, but she’s much more well-known because she’s part of Parisian Gentleman.

Denise in a wide-lapel overcoat
Denise in a wide-lapel overcoat

On the other hand, this is probably the first time you hear about Denise. Realistically, an interesting classic style is not just limited to men. I mean, Marlene Dietrich did it. Why shouldn’t someone else do the same?

Denise enjoys wide-lapel overcoats, sometimes, cool blazers in burgundy and gold and all the nine yards of classic menswear. Denise’s style is full of Italian flair and a lot of sprezzatura without being over the top or too studied.

Denise, we’re proud to have you on our list!

Conclusion

That being said, there are so many other really great men out there who dress in a fantastic way. We just wanted to highlight a few and bring you some that you may not have heard of before.

Ideally, I’d like to do another list in the future, maybe next year, and you can help us put that list together by leaving us a note in the comments section.

Outfit Rundown

In today’s video, I’m wearing a wintery tweed combination with a Harris tweed jacket made by Antartex. I like it because it has this very classic, oatmeal and brown herringbone pattern. It’s very heavy and it drapes well and it has side vents, which is rather unusual for most Harris tweed sport coats, unless, of course, you have them made custom. This one here is a vintage item I got from Golden Pearl Vintage in Minneapolis.

My shirt is green and white-striped from Siniscalchi in Milano. I’m wearing it with Fort Belvedere eagle claw cufflinks in malachite and silver, which you can find in our shop.

Just like the pocket square I’m wearing, which is silk and paisley with shades of blue. And my tie, which is also Fort Belvedere, which is a Havana brown tobacco shade.

My pants are corduroy from Polo Ralph Lauren, and my socks are prototype two-tone solids from Fort Belvedere in green and blue. You can see they work with the color of my knit vest, which is from Spier & Mackay, and they have the same blue as the pocket square.

Sometimes, though, when you develop socks, the colors don’t quite pop the way you envisioned it and this was one of the examples here. It’s too green. You can’t see enough of the blue and so, when you design products, sometimes you really have to try different things and, especially with socks, the finest of the yarn sometimes can impact the overall look. So, there’s a lot of trial and error.

On my feet, I have a pair of chukka boots from Saint Crispin’s. And last but not least, I have a ring, which is an art deco-inspired style with a hawk’s eye stone.

Who do you think are the best-dressed real men out there and why? Please share in the comments below.

Reader Comments

  1. I was expecting to see Hugo and Sonya Jacomet on your list. They have a great style and I love their books.

    1. Absolutely agree. Their entire approach, not only in fashion, but life in general is an uplifting experience every time. Been meaning to pick up one of their books and you’ve inspired me to do exactly that. Hugo rightly explains; however liberating the generations of the 60’s and 70’s must have felt while eschewing all forms of tradition, ultimately, tie dyed/ratty-casual became totally mainstream. With shock value completely gone, he’s correct in asking, “Well, who’s the rebels NOW..?”

    2. We love Hugo and Sonya’s style, but they are already very well known within the menswear community. This article gives us an opportunity to shed some light on people you might not have seen or heard of that are equally stylish.

  2. How can you leave yourself off the list? I will add your name to the list.

  3. Andre Churchwell MD, U of Vanderbilt Nashville, TN
Google his name and enjoy his gallery.

  4. Fantastic article. I really enjoyed it.

It reminds me of a particular garment that I really like, but is rarely seen..….Gurkha pants. Does anyone know of a source for high quality off the peg Gurkhas? I don’t live in a metropolitan area, so buying bespoke is not a practical option. Please pardon the off topic comment, and thanks for any suggestions.

    1. Rubinacci is known for their gurkha trousers–I believe they make two different styles, one of which is the Manny. Suitsupply has the Fellini trouser, which is a gurkha. They’re discontinuing it, so whatever is on their site now is all of it.

  5. Hiro looks awful. White t shirt. Caramel pants and (?) shoes. I wouldn’t leave my room looking that way. Raphael not much better. Pants look rumpled… Cardigan looks like old folks home. Nothing good there except fit. “Texture” and Bernard looked good as did most others. Great idea for an article which I enjoyed.

  6. Maslow So is probably #2 on my list as I like the style of his tailoring (but not his shoe choices). #1 is Jean-Manuel Moreau, who qualifies as “ordinary guy” more than someone like Andreas Weinas (who is my #3). It’s always going to be based on whether you yourself would wear what they wear, I think, which is what motivates my choices of “best dressed.” There are others who dress differently than me who I also appreciate.

  7. Scorpacciata is defined as feast or binge, as in consume (a product) voraciously, not a technical process such as fashion or style, seasonal or otherwise. GG’s former article on this term had an Italian native bring this to your attention. Cultural awareness and competency could well be considered hallmarks of an erudite gentleman.
Also, where are Hugo and Sonya?

  8. I think Dr. ANDRE CHURCHWELL should fit in as well. I particularly like his effortless style and his playing with tradition and colours.

    1. Yes, he is really well dressed. Hi met him for brunch once. Very nice person!

  9. No 1 on your list your list should surely be Prince Charles, Prince of Wales. Always immaculately dressed.

  10. Lasse Hedensted isn’t probably very cool but he is one of the most stylish man in the world!

    1. Hi Alex,

Although we may speak to bad styles that men wear generally, we draw the line at commenting on actual individuals. Ultimately, classic style is to be enjoyed, and we’d much rather share what people are doing in a positive rather than a negative way :)
